Collierville High School has a new varsity boys basketball coach, at least on an interim basis – the team’s third coach this season.
The suburban system announced the naming of Shawn Taggart the Dragons interim coach on Friday, noting coach Cedric Henderson resigned Thursday. The district did not provide additional details about Henderson’s resignation. At practice, players were told little beyond Henderson was no longer with the team, according to a source.
Taggart has been on support staff at Collierville High and served as an assistant during the 2020 season, when the team went to the state semifinals.
This is the third coach the high school boys have had this season. Scott Robinson, the former coach, resigned for “personal reasons” shortly before the beginning of the season. An open records request showed the resignation came following an investigation of inappropriate interactions with a minor.
The Dragons went 11-3 under Henderson with losses against Chicago Simeon, Whitehaven and Germantown, according to the team’s website. His last game as head coach was Tuesday against St. Benedict — a 76-61 victory for Collierville.
The Dragons play Friday night at Cordova.
Taggart played for the University of Memphis on the team that reached the 2008 national championship before falling to Kansas. He then played nine seasons professionally overseas.
