Exciting developments are underway at Charles W. Baker Airport in Millington. The airport plans to construct a brand-new $2.5 million terminal, doubling the size of the current 2,400-square-foot terminal. The existing structure will be demolished to make way for this modern facility.
ViktorHall Construction LLC won the project responsibility through a meticulous bidding process conducted by Shelby County Airport Authority, the overseeing body for operations at Memphis International Airport and General DeWitt Spain airport in Downtown.
To support the region’s air travel infrastructure, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has pledged $14.8 million in upgrades for Memphis International Airport, with $1 million allocated to Charles W. Baker Airport for the new terminal construction.
Construction is scheduled to begin in summer and aims to be completed by fall 2024. The construction will be done in phases to avoid disruptions to existing services. This approach allows the current terminal to remain operational until the new facility is ready.
Primarily serving general aviation, Charles W. Baker Airport provides services to private and business pilots, helicopters, and other non-commercial aircraft. The services include fuel provisions, hangar and ramp space, and ample aircraft parking.
The airport’s significance is evident from its 2022 record of facilitating 27,900 operations, illustrating its vital role in the region’s aviation landscape. The upcoming terminal upgrade will enhance the airport’s capabilities and meet the growing demands of its aviation community.
