Heathfield Project: Lakeland’s Gateway to Progress and Community Revitalization

The Lakeland Board of Commissioners have given the green light to a new mixed-use commercial project located along U.S. 70, adjacent to the Heathfield at Scotts Creek residential development. This exciting new venture, named the Heathfield project, was unanimously approved by the board on May 2nd, after a 12-month moratorium on U.S. 70 commercial developments was lifted earlier this year.

This expansive project, spread over 31.4 acres, is set to transform the area, providing a critical route to relieve traffic from several proposed residential developments. The Heathfield project will feature 20 acres of commercial outlets with 11 acres of high-end townhomes nestled behind. Plans also include a 75 to 100-room boutique hotel, a public amphitheater and a network of walking and golf-cart trails.

As well as providing an economic boost and job creation for Shelby County, it is hoped that the Heathfield project will bring Lakeland closer to securing a Safety TIF (Tax Increment Financing), improving the safety of Highway 70 for all of its residents.

Further developments for the area include potential plans for a new Farmer’s Market pavilion at Lakeland Town Square, following in Bartlett and Arlington’s footsteps where similar attractions have been a hit with locals. The board is currently discussing funding options for this project. Stay tuned for more updates as the Heathfield development takes shape.

The Heathfield project is just one example of the exciting growth and development happening in Lakeland, Tennessee. With its prime location near major highways and close proximity to Memphis, Lakeland continues to attract new residents and businesses alike.

In addition to the Heathfield project, there are several other notable developments taking place in Lakeland. The city recently announced plans for a new sports complex, which will include multiple baseball and softball fields, as well as a multi-purpose field for soccer and lacrosse. This complex is expected to draw in teams from all over the region for tournaments and events, bringing in tourism dollars to the city.

Lakeland is also seeing growth in its residential sector, with several new housing developments underway. These developments offer a variety of housing options, from single-family homes to luxury apartments, catering to a range of budgets and lifestyles. With its top-rated schools, low crime rate, and family-friendly community events, Lakeland is quickly becoming a sought-after destination for families looking to settle down.
