Ethan Lee identified a gap in the local country club market—finding the existing options in the Memphis area either too traditional or financially out of reach. Motivated by a desire to create a more accessible and community-focused experience, Lee has embarked on an innovative venture to establish High Tee, a virtual country club, in Germantown. The club will be situated in the revitalizing retail space formerly occupied by Doc’s Wine Spirits and More, located on the east side of Carrefour at Kirby Woods, which is transforming into the dynamic mixed-use development known as The Standard. This pioneering club promises to occupy a customized 12,000-square-foot area, offering a unique blend of luxury and accessibility without the need for an actual golf course.
Lee’s ambition extends beyond traditional country club offerings; High Tee will introduce top-tier golf simulators, the first of its kind in Tennessee, featuring five Uneekor XO2 systems alongside superior artificial-grass mats designed to closely replicate the feel of real golf greens. Beyond golf, the club will offer a variety of services including professional lessons, club fittings, and upscale amenities such as spa services and party rentals, with plans for future expansion. Additionally, while traditional tennis courts won’t be available, members can enjoy the increasingly popular game of pickleball, further enhancing the club’s appeal.
This initiative is more than a business venture for Lee; it’s a personal mission to foster a vibrant golf community in Memphis. Drawing from his unique background in golf—from a late start at the age of 25 to becoming a certified coach—Lee’s vision for High Tee is to offer an inviting space where both novice and experienced golfers alike can enjoy the game in a relaxed, social setting. His vision is underscored by a commitment to affordability and inclusion, intending to redefine the country club experience and cultivate a sense of belonging among members.
High Tee LLC, established a year ago, has meticulously planned its launch, patiently securing the ideal location following the closure of Doc’s. With hopes to commence operations for existing clients soon and open memberships by June, High Tee is on the brink of bringing a novel concept to life in Germantown. Offering walk-in rates and competitive membership packages, Lee aims to create an atmosphere where community ties are strengthened through shared interests and regular activities.
