With predominantly great weather throughout the summer, progress on The Lake District in Lakeland continues to gain momentum with the announcement of three more businesses.
At its regular monthly meeting Thursday, Aug. 26, the Lakeland Industrial Development Board got an in-depth progress report on the $400 million mixed-use development from Maggie Gallagher, The Lake District’s development director.
Construction on Gilad Development’s 160-acre site southeast of the Interstate 40-Canada Road junction has been underway about 18 months. Phase 1 commercial space is completely leased except for three bays.
“There are three tenants … that we have not announced yet. Their leases are out for signature. That’s CycleBar, StretchLab, and Brazilian Wax,” Gallagher said at the IDB meeting. “It’s pretty exciting that the leasing’s going so well. We’ve got an excellent, excellent tenant mix.”
Gallagher thinks the project’s various local and regional tenants will provide longevity there and drive traffic to the retail center. New concept Main Squeeze Juicery has even hired a national firm to help create a brand to roll out when they open in Lakeland.
“So these aren’t just people showing up saying, ‘Hey, I think I’ll put a little shop in The Lake District.’ These are really solid people that have skin in the game. They’ve made a big investment for their brand,” Gallagher said.
