Homecoming in Healthcare: Arlington High Graduate Launches Airline Road Dental Care Clinic
Arlington High graduate, Dr. Angela Washington, has returned to her hometown to establish her own dental practice. Washington, a 2014 alumna of Arlington High, is set to inaugurate her Airline Road Dental Care clinic later this month. The clinic, located at 5261 Airline Road within the Crawford Place commercial development, holds sentimental value as it is situated across the street from her alma mater.
Reflecting on her formative years, Washington reminisced about the transformation of Airline Road from a two-lane to a four-lane highway during her junior and senior years. She views this return as an excellent opportunity to contribute to the growth of an area she knows well.
After completing her undergraduate studies at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, Washington spent a year in Memphis preparing for dental school. She gained acceptance to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where she graduated in May of the current year.
Washington’s interest in dentistry was sparked during her childhood when she received braces in the sixth or seventh grade. Enjoying the experience, she found her calling and pursued a career in general dentistry, favoring hands-on activities. Washington’s clinic aims to address the demand for dental services in Arlington, drawing patients from nearby counties such as Fayette and Tipton.
Having worked at Great Southern Smiles in Germantown, Washington describes her experience there as a “mini-residency” before venturing into private practice. Her clinic will offer a range of standard dental services, including extractions, fillings, crowns, and more. She also highlighted the increasing popularity of Invisalign, emphasizing its applicability to younger children.
Anticipating the clinic’s opening on December 15, Washington plans a grand opening event from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be open to the public, featuring festive activities for both children and adults, including a visit from Santa.
Washington foresees the employment of nine staff members at the beginning, including three hygienists. The Airline Road location is part of a broader trend in medical-related businesses opening in the area, such as the Baptist Arlington Emergency Department and the forthcoming MemDent dentistry office complex.
As Arlington experiences growth, with developments like Providence Place and Hawthorne in the pipeline, the Arlington Chamber of Commerce’s director, Tonia Howell, notes the increasing interest from medical providers. The broader context suggests a burgeoning need for healthcare services in the region.
