Former University of Memphis standout Cedric Henderson is the new boys basketball coach at Collierville High School, the school announced on Monday.
Henderson replaces Scott Robinson, who resigned Oct. 6 for personal reasons. Henderson will serve on an interim basis for the 2021-22 season, according to a news release sent by Collierville Schools.
“We feel we have found someone that could prove to be a tremendous leader in our community, a wonderful communicator and a developer of talent,” Collierville Schools athletic director Jeff Curtis said. “With Cedric’s Hall of Fame success at the University of Memphis and NBA experience, we are confident he will do great things at Collierville High School.”
Henderson was a McDonald’s All American at East High before going on to a standout career with the Tigers, who inducted him into their M Club Hall of Fame in 2008.
He was taken in the second round of the 1997 NBA draft by Cleveland and played four seasons with the Cavaliers and one with the Golden State Warriors before finishing his career overseas.
His coaching career includes stints at Southwest Tennessee and Christian Brothers University.
Henderson inherits a team that is coming off its first appearance in the AAA state tournament since 1973. Collierville defeated Cleveland in the quarterfinals before losing to Cane Ridge in the semis.
The first official day for basketball practice in Tennessee is Nov. 1.
