A 32-acre site in Millington at the northwest corner of U.S. 51 and Veterans Boulevard is the latest tax increment financing — or TIF — district for the city north of Memphis.

The Shelby County Commission approved Monday, Nov. 1, the economic impact plan for the Forked Deer River Commons project. The plan lays out the use of Millington and Shelby County property tax revenue captured in the TIF that takes in what are now two parcels of undeveloped land.

The City of Millington’s Industrial Development Board approved the TIF in October, setting the stage for the commission’s vote Monday without debate.

Plans call for mixed-use commercial development with $31.8 million in construction for retail, office and hotel spaces. There are also plans for medical and assisted living facilities on the property.

A TIF for a much bigger development, Millington Farms, which also borders Veterans Parkway, has been in force since 2020. It covers 103 acres and is also a multi-use commercial development area.
