The long-anticipated moment is finally here as Owners Box Bar & Grill prepares to open its doors. After an exhaustive two-year journey encompassing planning, construction, and numerous unexpected delays, owner Philip Cox’s vision is set to become a reality on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
Nestled within Lakeland Town Square between Highway 70 and Memphis-Arlington Road, this captivating space promises a unique experience. Accommodating over three hundred patrons, it boasts an impressive selection of twenty-four beers on tap and fifty-five bottled beers. The menu, curated by experienced manager Amanda Martelli, offers an enticing range of mixed drinks, bourbons, wines, and a delectable assortment of dishes. Drawing from her fifteen-year tenure managing Buffalo Wild Wings, Martelli envisions the Owners Box becoming a Lakeland staple. She enthuses, “Our menu is a standout, from the substantial wings to the variety of items like burgers, appetizers, salads, cheesesteaks, wraps, and more, catering to everyone in the family.”
The venue’s allure extends beyond libations and cuisine, with twenty-seven large-screen TVs dispersed throughout the premises, complemented by two grand projection screens. These screens will come alive during major sporting events such as the Super Bowl and NCAA Final Four. Outdoor seating beckons patrons to relax in front of a cozy fireplace, making for ideal conversations with friends. Complete sports packages and the prospect of lively game days are expected to draw fans from near and far. Lakeland Mayor Josh Roman’s excitement isn’t just about the revenue influx but also the prospect of watching games at the Owners Box. He humorously shares, “I can’t wait to start the Lakeland Dallas Cowboys watch club!”
Beyond sports, the Owners Box promises a range of engaging nights. Martelli underscores their intention to offer diverse specials, including trivia nights and pint nights, catering to sports enthusiasts and non-fans alike.
Vice Mayor Wesley Wright, personally acquainted with the owners, anticipates that the Owners Box will be a beacon in Lakeland’s history. As an independent establishment, its offerings resonate widely, positioning it as a community hub for post-game celebrations and major sports events.
The journey leading to this opening hasn’t been without its trials for Mr. Cox and Ms. Martelli. While Mr. Cox’s background in commercial construction offered a foundation, realizing the Owners Box’s vision proved a monumental feat. Navigating COVID’s challenges in 2020 alongside supply chain disruptions and unforeseen code issues tested their perseverance. Despite the hurdles, Mr. Cox is resolute: “I knew we would get here; I just didn’t think it would take this long.” With such dedication invested, Mr. Cox envisions the potential for a second location in the future, emphasizing the importance of location and partnerships.
Anticipation is high, not just for Mr. Cox and Ms. Martelli, but also for Lakeland residents and neighboring communities. The Owners Box is poised to offer a distinctive sports bar and grill experience, creating a new focal point for camaraderie and entertainment.
